The Multi Disc Screw Press is an advanced sludge dewatering system that operates on a filtration mechanism after sludge coagulation and flocculation.
It effectively separates water from sludge, producing a dry sludge cake for easier handling and disposal.

Features

• Utilizes a stack of alternating moving and fixed discs with varying diameters based on capacity.

Components

1. Sludge Feed Line – Entry point for sludge into the system.
2. Overflow Weir Pipe – Returns excess sludge overflow back to the feed tank.
3. Flocculator Agitator Drives – Promote enhanced coagulation and flocculation.
4. Spiral Screw & Alternating Discs – Core elements powered by a gearbox, facilitating sludge movement and filtration.
5. Spray Nozzle – Cleans sludge leakages outside the discs.
6. Adjustable Pressure Plate – Controls sludge cake dryness by adjusting compression.
7. Filtrate Outlet – Returns filtered water to the plant for reuse or further treatment.
8. Flocculator Tank Drain – Drains excess sludge from the flocculation tank.

Operating Stages

1: Coagulation and Flocculation

• Sludge is fed into the system via a feed pump through an inlet nozzle.
• Adjustable weir coupler controls feed flow and diverts excess sludge back to the tank.
• Operators dose anionic or cationic polyelectrolytes as sludge passes through a triangular weir and baffle.
• Coagulation and flocculation take place in a tank with a Variable Frequency Drive (VFD) controlled mixer operating between 12-22 RPM, maturing sludge flocs.
• The system transfers coagulated sludge to the first screw chamber through a flexible hose.

2 & 3: Thickening and Dewatering

• In the screw chamber, water is filtered through the discs as the sludge moves forward.
• The sludge becomes thicker and dryer as it progresses.
• Operators seal the final compartment with an adjustable pressure plate, setting it to 3 mm or 5 mm using gauge strips to control sludge cake dryness.

4: Filtrate Recycling

• The system collects filtered water in a sump and recycles it back to the feed tank or sends it for further processing at the effluent treatment plant.
• A self-cleaning water jet system cleans the disc surfaces, preventing clogging and ensuring smooth operation.
• Operators can manually operate this cleaning, or the system can automate it via solenoid valves controlled through a PCB-based control panel.

Modular Design

• The Multi Disc Screw Press can be supplied with 1, 2, 3, or 4 screws in a single machine to suit varying capacity needs.
